Career Timeline

Charlotte Christian LogoHigh School: A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Leah earned all-state, all-conference and all-county honors in basketball. Under the guidance of coach Bob Angley at Charlotte Christian School, she led her team to win the state championship her junior year. She was also an outstanding track & field athlete who won state championships and earned all-state honors in the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump as a senior. Leah was a member of the National Honor Society, the Honor Roll and the Homecoming Court, and graduated Charlotte Christian with honors.

a-Metcalf1120NCAA: Competed four years under coach Sylvia Hatchell for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She played in more than 30 games each season and established herself as a team leader and efficient point guard ranking in the top six for assist-to- turnover ratio for the ACC each year. In her senior year, Leah helped lead her team to an ACC Championship and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance.

Listed among her Honors are: ACC 2nd Team All‑Tournament 2003, named to the ACC All-Freshmen Team 2002 … The Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year 2001… Preseason WNIT All‑Tournament Team 2001….

Leah Metcalf_WNBAWNBA: Leah attended 2 WNBA training camps: in 2006 with the Seattle Storm, and in 2007 with the Los Angeles Sparks. Although she didn’t make the final roster either time, she gained valuable knowledge and experience which helped propel her into her European basketball career.

Marbo 2007 Sweden: In her first season as a professional basketball player in Europe, Leah traveled to a small town in Sweden named Kinna (pronounced “shi-nah”) in January of 2007 to play for the team Marbo Borås. She joined the team midway through the season to play for the remaining 3 months. She quickly made a name for herself, and as shown in the picture, she was deemed “ligans bästa guard,” which translates to “league’s best guard.” She averaged 22 points while shooting 62.2% from the field. She also averaged 5.9 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.8 assists per game.

Lux carpe2007-2008 Luxembourg: In her second season as a professional, Leah traveled to Esch, Luxembourg to play for the team Basket Esch. From November 2007 until the end of May 2008, Leah experienced her first full season. From visiting Paris, France and Budapest, Hungary for the first time, to trying different foods like horse and rabbit, the season was full of excitement! She averaged 25.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.1 steals per game and led her team to win the championship that year. She also earned MVP honors for the Luxembourgish league.

Carpe Marbo22008-2009 Sweden: Leah’s next season would take her back to where her professional European career began. In her 3rd season, she returned to Kinna, Sweden to play for Marbo Borås. In this 2008-2009 season, her accolades included: Guard of the Year, Import Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and All-Swedish Damligan 1st Team. She led the league in both steals (4.1 per game) and assists (4.6 per game), and ranked 2nd in the league in scoring with an average of 21.3. She also averaged 5.1 rebounds per game.

carpe toulouse2009-2010 France: Her next season saw a change in scenery and climate as she move to play in the French basketball league. She signed to play in the beautiful city of Toulouse in the south of France for the 2009-2010 season. Her team, Toulouse Métropole Basket, struggling to compete with the better teams in the league, managed to accomplish the goal of remaining in the top league in France by finishing among the top 12 teams. She averaged 11 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

leah telge22010-2011 Sweden: In her fifth season, Leah returned to Sweden for the third time. She signed in December 2010 to play for the team Telge (pronounced “tell‑yay”) located in Sodertälje, Sweden. Only 45 minutes from Stockholm, this location allowed for frequent visits to the capital city of Sweden. She led her team to the championship, winning the gold medal and earning MVP honors for the 2nd time in her career. She averaged 15.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 3 steals.

Carpe Torun22011-2012 Poland: In her sixth season, Leah moved to Toruń, Poland, to play in the Polish basketball league for team Energa Toruń. This would be the first of many seasons spent in Poland. She helped her team to a bronze medal that year with a third place finish, despite being sidelined for 2 months with a fractured tibia. She averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds for the season. She was also an Honorable Mention for the PLKK All-Polish league awards.

11303793_1608981186008341_1197018020_o2012-2013 Poland and Russia: Her next season would take Leah quite a few places. It started great in the fall of 2012 with team KK Row in Rybnik, Poland. Despite averaging 15.8 points and 5 rebounds, her team folded for financial reasons two months into the season.

In December 2012, Leah signed with team AZS OPTeam in Rzeszów, Poland. There she averaged 13.7 points, 6.1 assists and 4.4 rebounds.

She finished this season in the most competitive basketball league overseas with the team Энергия Иваново (Energia Ivanovo) in Russia. She averaged 8.7 points and lived in the extremely cold (-15C) and snowy city of Ivanovo, which is about 4 hours northeast of Moscow.LeahMetcalf_CareerTimeline_2012-13

Carpe Bydgoczsz2013-2014 Poland: In her eighth season, Leah played for the team Artego in Bydgoszcz, Poland. She led her team to the playoffs and a third place finish, winning a bronze medal for the second time in the Polish league. She finished the season averaging 16.4 points, 6.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2 steals. She was named to the 2nd Team All-Polish BLK League.

Rybnik carpe2014-2015 Poland: In her ninth season, Leah played for the team Basket Row located in Rybnik, Poland. Starting every game, she led her team to a playoff berth, but they unfortunately lost out in the first round. Her team finished the season ranked 6th out of the 12 teams in the Polish league. Her season averages included 17 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5 assists and 2.2 steals. She notched her highest scoring game of this season on December 10, 2014, scoring 34 points!

Carpe Bydgoczsz2015-2016 Poland: In her 10th season abroad, Leah played for the team AZS UM Lublin in Lublin, Poland. The ultimate highlight of this year was her team winning the Polish Cup, of which she was named MVP! Her season averages were 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2 steals per game. This completed her fifth and final basketball season competing in Poland and she is thankful it ended on a good note. Dziękuję Polska!

Rybnik carpe2016-2017 France: Leah’s 11th season brought her back to a beloved and familiar place in Toulouse, France. She played for Toulouse Metropole Basket (TMB) for the second time in her career. Unforeseen injuries had an unfavorable effect on the team’s success. A season like this one really helped Leah to put things in perspective, and learn to trust and endure even when times aren’t so rosy. Her season averages were 10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

2018 Australia: Leah’s next season abroad would take her across the world to Adelaide, Australia to play for the North Adelaide Basketball Club in the Premier League of South Australia. Her team didn’t practice as much as most European teams, but the practices weren’t easy under 5-time Ironman coach Brenton Johnston. She also had the opportunity to play alongside Australian basketball legend, Jo Hill! Leah racked up a few accolades to go along with her team’s undefeated season of winning the Premier League Championship. She was named the Premier League’s Most Valuable Player, Best Defensive Player, and selected to the All-Star team. Her season averages were 21.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 4 steals.

Rybnik carpe2018-2019 France: Leah is currently playing for C’Chartrés Basket Feminin in Chartrés, France. She is excited to be back in France, in a city close to Paris. She is enjoying her new city and team. They’ve started the season off winning games with strong collective performances. She looks forward to having a great season with her new team and hopes to win another championship! :)
